About the Role
Senior Mechanical Engineer – Building Services
My client is looking for an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to join their M&E team. This role offers the opportunity to take technical ownership of projects, mentor junior staff, and contribute to the continued development of the team. You will work on a wide variety of building services projects across multiple sectors and be supported in your ongoing professional growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Take responsibility for the delivery of mechanical services designs across multiple projects.
- Lead the preparation of outline and detailed designs for tender, including specifications, drawings, and schedules.
- Produce high-quality technical reports and design documentation.
- Undertake site surveys, mechanical load assessments, and detailed engineering calculations.
- Liaise directly with clients, architects, contractors, and other stakeholders to coordinate design requirements.
- Attend and represent the team at project, client, and design team meetings—both in the office and on site.
- Provide technical leadership and day-to-day support to junior and intermediate engineers.
- Contribute to workflow planning, project resourcing, and quality assurance processes.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry standards through continued professional development.
- Ensure compliance with internal policies, procedures, and Quality Management Systems.
Essential Requirements
- HNC/D or degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related building services discipline (degree preferred).
- Minimum of 7–10 years' post-graduate mechanical building services design experience within consultancy or contracting.
- Strong understanding of the current UK Building Regulations, design standards and the construction design/procurement process.
- Working knowledge of CIBSE guides and relevant industry best practices.
- Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, Revit, IES, and Hevacomp (or equivalent).
- Proven experience delivering mechanical designs for projects of varying scale and complexity.
