About the Role
My client is an M&E consultancy committed to shaping better built environments through sustainable, technically excellent design. They are looking for an experienced Principal Electrical Design Engineer to join their Liverpool team. In this senior role you will lead the design, development, and delivery of electrical building services across a variety of projects. You’ll act as a technical authority for electrical systems, mentor other engineers, and help shape the direction of the electrical department.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and deliver detailed electrical design for building services projects: lighting, power, emergency systems, fire alarm, data, and more.
- Produce and review technical reports, specifications, drawings, and calculations.
- Provide design guidance and mentoring to junior and mid-level electrical engineers.
- Coordinate closely with mechanical, sustainability, structural, and architectural disciplines.
- Work with clients and project teams during design reviews, site visits, and commissioning.
- Ensure compliance with relevant codes, regulations, and standards (e.g., BS, CIBSE).
- Support quality control and continuous improvement in technical and design processes.
- Contribute to business development by supporting proposals, presenting to clients, and identifying technical opportunities.
About You
- Degree in Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or equivalent.
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status preferred or working toward it.
- Substantial experience in an electrical building services consultancy.
- Strong technical knowledge of M&E systems: power distribution, lighting, fire, communications, and controls.
- Proficiency with design software/tools (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit MEP, or similar).
- Excellent leadership and communication skills; proven ability to mentor and develop a team.
- Commercially aware, with a good understanding of how design decisions impact cost and client outcomes.
