Role Overview

They are looking for an experienced Electrical Design Engineer with at least 5 years of consultancy‑based electrical design experience in the building services sector. You will be responsible for developing detailed electrical design solutions across a range of building types, ensuring compliance with UK & Irish standards, collaborating with multi‑disciplinary teams, and supporting projects from early feasibility through construction documentation and handover.

  • Prepare detailed electrical layouts, single line diagrams (SLDs), schematics, and specifications for power distribution, lighting, fire alarms, communications, security, EV charging, and ancillary systems.
  • Produce electrical calculations (load, diversity, short‑circuit, cable sizing) and ensure designs comply with applicable standards (e.g., BS 7671, CIBSE, Building Regulations).
  • Develop design documentation and technical reports suitable for design submissions, construction, and procurement. Coordinate electrical design with mechanical, architectural, structural, and specialist disciplines using BIM (Revit) and CAD tools (AutoCAD, Amtech etc.).
  • Participate in site surveys, feasibility studies, and project meetings; visit construction sites as required.
  • Provide technical support during installation, testing, and commissioning phases and respond to site queries. Contribute to estimating, tender documentation, value engineering, and project risk assessments.
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers, supporting knowledge transfer and design quality assurance.

Skills & Experience (Required)

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in electrical building services design within a consultancy environment.
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or related discipline (or equivalent vocational qualifications and experience).
  • Proficiency in CAD and BIM tools (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit) and design calculation tools.
  • Strong knowledge of UK & Irish electrical design codes and standards (e.g., BS 7671, CIBSE guidelines).
  • Demonstrable experience producing coordinated construction‑stage electrical design deliverables.
  • Excellent communication, problem‑solving, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Familiarity with sustainable design principles (energy efficiency, low‑carbon solutions) and net‑zero considerations desirable.

Desirable Attributes

Experience with lighting design software (Dialux/Relux), Amtech, or similar analysis tools. Experience working within a BIM environment and carrying out clash detection/coordination. Professional institution membership (e.g., CIBSE, IET) or working toward chartership (CEng). Understanding of renewable technologies and energy‑efficient strategies.
