About the Role

We are looking for a passionate and driven Graduate Sustainability Consultant to join a growing sustainability team within a leading multidisciplinary design practice.

The successful candidate will have a genuine interest in sustainability within the built environment, supported by a relevant qualification in environmental design, sustainability, or a related subject. You will be enthusiastic about creating positive change and applying sustainability principles to real-world projects.

Some experience or an interest in design and/or architecture would be advantageous.

You will join a growing team of specialist sustainability consultants working across a wide range of built-environment projects, sectors and scales. Working alongside experienced consultants and multidisciplinary design teams, you will contribute to the development and delivery of sustainability strategies.

Your work may include:

  • Environmental assessments and sustainability analysis
  • Life-cycle assessment and whole-life carbon considerations
  • Performance monitoring and reporting
  • Supporting the development and implementation of sustainability strategies
  • Providing sustainability input into design proposals
  • Working collaboratively with architects, engineers, planners, landscape architects, interior designers and other specialists
  • Helping clients and project teams identify practical opportunities to reduce environmental impact and improve building performance

You will receive support and development from experienced sustainability professionals while gaining exposure to a diverse range of projects and disciplines.

About You

We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic about sustainability and keen to develop a career within the built environment.

Essential requirements:

  • A relevant qualification in environmental design, sustainability, environmental science, or a related subject
  • An understanding of the relationship between different sustainability aspects and their impact on the built environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience of report writing and presenting information
  • Strong numerical, analytical and graphical skills
  • The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • A genuine interest in sustainable design and the built environment

Desirable experience:

  • Previous experience within the built environment
  • Experience of implementing sustainability initiatives within projects or organisations
  • Experience or knowledge of environmental assessment or life-cycle assessment
  • Membership of a relevant professional body
  • An understanding of sustainable design principles and environmental performance

About the Sustainability Team

The sustainability team plays an important role in influencing how buildings and places are designed, delivered and operated.

The team works collaboratively across the wider organisation to promote environmentally responsible design, develop sustainability services and support project teams in delivering practical, low-impact and high-quality solutions.

Key objectives include:

  • Expanding knowledge and expertise in sustainable design and environmental performance
  • Supporting the continued development of sustainability services
  • Influencing design proposals to improve environmental performance and overall design quality
  • Promoting sustainable, healthy and value-added design solutions
  • Working closely with studios, professional leads and senior management to embed sustainability throughout the organisation
  • Supporting efforts to reduce the environmental impact of day-to-day operations
  • Contributing to the organisation's environmental management and energy objectives
  • Developing thought leadership across key areas of the sustainability agenda
