About the Role

Senior Mechanical Engineer – Building Services

My client is looking for an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to join their M&E team. This role offers the opportunity to take technical ownership of projects, mentor junior staff, and contribute to the continued development of the team. You will work on a wide variety of building services projects across multiple sectors and be supported in your ongoing professional growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take responsibility for the delivery of mechanical services designs across multiple projects.
  • Lead the preparation of outline and detailed designs for tender, including specifications, drawings, and schedules.
  • Produce high-quality technical reports and design documentation.
  • Undertake site surveys, mechanical load assessments, and detailed engineering calculations.
  • Liaise directly with clients, architects, contractors, and other stakeholders to coordinate design requirements.
  • Attend and represent the team at project, client, and design team meetings—both in the office and on site.
  • Provide technical leadership and day-to-day support to junior and intermediate engineers.
  • Contribute to workflow planning, project resourcing, and quality assurance processes.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry standards through continued professional development.
  • Ensure compliance with internal policies, procedures, and Quality Management Systems.

Essential Requirements

  1. HNC/D or degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related building services discipline (degree preferred).
  2. Minimum of 7–10 years' post-graduate mechanical building services design experience within consultancy or contracting.
  3. Strong understanding of the current UK Building Regulations, design standards and the construction design/procurement process.
  4. Working knowledge of CIBSE guides and relevant industry best practices.
  5. Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, Revit, IES, and Hevacomp (or equivalent).
  6. Proven experience delivering mechanical designs for projects of varying scale and complexity.
