Established in 2002, we are a well-respected building services consultancy specialising in mechanical and electrical design, lifecycle condition surveys, and refurbishment and maintenance projects. With a reputation for delivering high-quality, efficient services, we work across both the private sector (including corporate offices and warehouse facilities) and the public sector (local authorities, schools, colleges, leisure centres), as well as universities, NHS Trust hospitals, police headquarters, and heritage buildings.

Our Northampton office provides nationwide coverage, and due to continued growth, we are seeking a skilled and motivated Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team.


Job Title: Mechanical Engineer

About the Role

As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be involved in all aspects of building services engineering, including developing design calculations, producing drawings and specifications, and contributing to high-quality project delivery. This role offers an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic and self-motivated engineer who is looking to progress their career within a supportive and reputable consultancy.


Key Responsibilities

  • Understand and develop client design briefs

  • Produce specifications, schedules, drawings, and all relevant contract documentation

  • Develop mechanical design calculations

  • Attend progress, design team, and site inspection meetings

  • Conduct condition and dilapidation surveys

  • Ensure design work aligns with project programmes

  • Coordinate with architects, structural engineers, and other consultants

  • Liaise with clients, contractors, suppliers, and professional organisations

  • Identify and meet client requirements and expectations


Minimum Requirements

  • Experience in mechanical building services design, including calculations, system design, and specification writing

  • Proven experience working across various sectors within building services

  • Highly motivated team player with strong initiative

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong report-writing ability

  • Minimum HNC qualification, ideally degree-level, in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering

  • Ability to work proactively and make informed decisions


Package

  • Permanent position following a 3-month probation period

  • Competitive salary (£34k – £50k), depending on experience

  • Working hours: 8:30am – 5:00pm, with a 1-hour lunch break

  • 23 days annual leave plus bank holidays (with some days reserved for Christmas shutdown)

  • Company pension scheme (after qualifying period)
