About the Role
My client is a growing building services engineering consultancy seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer (Intermediate to Senior level) to join their Essex-based team. They deliver mechanical and electrical (MEP) design solutions across the built environment, working on projects within the commercial, residential, healthcare, and education sectors.
This role offers the opportunity to be involved across the full project lifecycle, from initial concept and feasibility through to detailed design and project delivery, contributing to practical, efficient, and high-quality building services solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Design mechanical building services systems including HVAC, heating, ventilation, and public health services
- Produce designs from concept through to construction stage
- Carry out design calculations (heat loss/gain, ventilation, duct and pipe sizing)
- Develop drawings and models using AutoCAD and Revit Coordinate with other disciplines, architects, and project stakeholders
- Attend client and design team meetings
- Support project delivery, ensuring designs are practical, compliant, and buildable
- Contribute to the delivery of efficient and cost-effective engineering solutions
Requirements
- Degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering
- Experience in mechanical building services design (intermediate to senior level)
- Strong technical capability across HVAC and general building services systems
- Experience using AutoCAD and/or Revit
- Good understanding of UK Building Regulations and industry standards
- Ability to manage workload and contribute to multiple projects
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
Desirable
Experience working within a building services consultancy. Familiarity with design software such as IES or Hevacomp. Understanding of energy-efficient and sustainable design principles. Chartered or working towards Chartership (CIBSE / IMechE)
