About the Role
A building services and facilities management consultancy is seeking a Senior to Associate level Mechanical Engineer to join its growing team.
This is a client-facing, operational engineering role focused on supporting building performance across existing property portfolios. The position offers a varied workload, combining office-based consultancy with regular site visits across London.
You will be involved in a broad mix of activities including condition surveys, troubleshooting, design and specification, and project management, working closely with clients to ensure the effective operation and maintenance of building services systems.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering & Technical
- Provide operational engineering support across client property portfolios
- Manage and support maintenance service delivery by contractors
- Undertake condition surveys, plantroom inspections, and technical audits
- Produce reports with findings and recommendations
- Carry out troubleshooting of mechanical building services systems
- Prepare design and technical specifications for project works
- Manage projects from initial brief through to completion and handover
- Support tendering processes for maintenance contracts
- Monitor contractor performance to ensure compliance with statutory and contractual requirements
- Attend site meetings and liaise with clients, contractors, and specialist suppliers
Client & Business Responsibilities
- Build and maintain strong client relationships
- Identify opportunities for additional services and business development
- Support the growth of the consultancy’s managed portfolio
- Contribute to fee proposals and general project administration
- Support and mentor junior engineers where appropriate
- Work closely with senior leadership to support ongoing business growth
Requirements
- Minimum ~10 years’ experience in mechanical building services engineering
- Strong background in design, with the ability to apply this knowledge in an operational/FM environment
- Experience working within building services consultancy or similar
- Good understanding of building services systems, maintenance practices, and statutory compliance
- Experience in client-facing roles and stakeholder management
- Strong report writing and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently
Desirable
Experience within facilities management or operational engineering consultancy. Experience with maintenance contract tendering and management HNC/HND or degree in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering. Chartered or working towards Chartership (e.g. CIBSE / IMechE)
